Grandstream GXP21xx Setup Guide

How to provision Grandstream GXP21xx IP phones for calling with Telzio.

This guide pertains to all phones in the Grandstream GXP21xx series, including the GXP2130, GXP2135, GXP2140, GXP2160, and GXP2170.

Steps for provisioning Grandstream GXP21xx IP phones with Telzio:

  1. Log into the phone’s web interface
  2. Enter the user credentials
  3. Setup the dialplan
  4. Enter the network settings
  5. Enable voicemail notifications
  6. Enable intercom and paging
  7. Configure BLF keys
If your device was previously used with a different provider, you'll first want to do a factory reset on the phone.

Log into the phone’s web interface

  1. Press the up arrow on the phone to display its IP address
  2. Type the IP address of the phone into your web browser to get to its interface
  3. Type in the following username and password, and click Login
  • Username admin
  • Password admin

It’s important to make sure there are no spaces before or after admin in order for the username and password to be valid. You’ll be prompted to change the password when you first log in.

If you don’t see an IP address, this likely means the phone does not have internet connectivity. Make sure the ethernet cable is connected to your router and the LAN port in the back of the phone.

Enter the user credentials

Depending on the model, you can configure multiple users with your Grandstream IP phone. The Grandstream GXP2135, for example, supports up to 4 user accounts, which means you can configure up to 4 different users on your phone.

When you first log in, you’ll notice there are 4 accounts available for configuration. We’ll start with configuring one user for Account 1, and you can configure additional users on the phone by repeating the steps for Accounts 2 through 4.

  1. Navigate to Accounts > Account 1 > General Settings

  2. Enter the following information in the fields provided:

    • Account Active: Yes
    • Account Name: Enter the name as you want it displayed on the phone
    • SIP Server:
    • SIP User ID: Enter the username
    • Authenticate ID: Repeat the username
    • Authenticate Password: Enter the password (case sensitive)
    • Name: Enter the name as you want it displayed to other users
    • Voicemail User ID: *98 (this enables you to press the voicemail icon on the phone to access voicemail)
  3. Click Save and Apply

Setup the dialplan

  1. On the phone’s web interface, navigate to Accounts > Account 1 > Call Settings
  2. Replace the content in the Dial Plan field with { X+ | x+ | +x+ | x+ | xxx+ }
  3. Click Save and Apply

Enter the network settings

  1. On the phone’s web interface, navigate to Accounts > Account 1 > Network Settings
  2. Change the setting for NAT Traversal to Auto

Enable voicemail notifications

To visually see when you receive a new voicemail message, you'll need to enable voicemail notifications on the phone. The phone will then start blinking red when you have a new message.

  1. On the phone’s web interface, navigate to Accounts > Account 1 > SIP Settings > Basic Settings
  2. Set SUBSCRIBE for MWI to Yes
  3. Click Save

Enable intercom and paging

Enabling intercom and paging will allow the phone to automatically answer a call and put it on speaker, when someone either pages or starts an intercom call with the phone's extension.

  1. On the phone’s web interface, navigate to Accounts > Account 1 > Call Settings
  2. Set Allow Auto Answer by Call-Info to Yes
  3. Click Save and Apply

Configure BLF keys

BLF keys (busy-lamp-field keys) enable you to see when other users in your organization are on a call. For example, you can set up to 32 BLF keys on the Grandstream GXP2135, which means you can view presence for up to 32 other users in your organization.

First, navigate to Settings > Programmable Keys > Virtual Multipurpose Keys.

You will notice rows 1 through 4 have Mode set to LINE by default, because the GXP2135 model supports up to 4 user accounts.

If you have 4 different users configured on your phone, you can switch between user lines by hitting the 4 keys along the left side of the display.

If you have one user configured on the phone, you can set each of the 4 keys to the one user, or set them as BLF keys.

We'll start by configuring the fifth key as BLF, and you can repeat the steps to configure additional keys. If you configure more than 8 keys, additional pages will be created on the phone’s LCD and you’ll see a Next button enabling you to scroll through the pages.

  1. Click on Edit VPK
  2. Set the Mode to Busy Lamp Field (BLF)
  3. Next to Description enter the name of the user as you want it displayed on the phone
  4. Next to Value enter the username of the person or phone
  5. Click Save
  6. When you’re done configuring the keys, click Save VPK
We recommend upgrading the firmware on your Grandstream device to make sure you have all the latest features. Upgrading the firmware is not required to configure your phone.
